A key factor in determining whether a mattress can be roll packed is its resilience — the ability to rebound after compression. Most foam, latex, and pocket spring mattresses meet this criterion and can be safely compressed and roll packed.
However, pocket spring mattresses must not include a steel wire frame, as such a frame prevents rebound and may deform under compression. Provided there’s no metal border, pocket spring mattresses can be compressed flat, folded if needed, and roll packed.
Versatile Packing Configurations Include:
- Auto Bagging
- Compression & Heat Sealing
- Fold in Half
- Folded Edge
- Roll Packing (Fixed or Adjustable Roll Diameter)
For example:
Auto Bagging: A roll film is installed at the top and bottom of the packing machine. The machine automatically wraps the mattress with PE or PVC film, heat-seals three sides, compresses the mattress, then seals the final side to form a fully air-tight, flat package.
Manual Bagging Alternative: If auto bagging isn't needed, manufacturers can use pre-sized PE/PVC bags and manually insert the mattress before compression.
After the mattress is compressed and sealed, it can be:
- Directly roll packed
- Folded in half, then roll packed
In some cases, edge folding improves the aesthetic and symmetry of the final roll.
